April Newsletter

The month of March has zipped by as the first signs of spring emerge into singing birds and blossoming trees.  Indeed, change is in the air at Voyager for we have brought our school-wide prevention curriculum and lunch groups to a close. The Freedom from Chemical Dependency Prevention Specialist visit provided an excellent perspective on how to see substance use/abuse based on experiences and evidence-based research.  While the community forum was not well-attended, the free teen center has seen a profound rise in attendance.  And the movie night and barbecue was a huge success!

The Ouray County Communities that Care Coalition continues to develop.  We will host the second half of the Community Board Orientation this week.  This tested and proven methodical approach will provide a strong foundation for an effective community coalition.

Next week is spring break!  Voyager is offering full days Monday through Thursday, the 3rd through the 10th.  Check out the calendar.  We will enjoy gardening, working with animals at Second Chance, and swimming at the Montrose CRC.  Please equip your child with proper clothing and shoes for the activities planned and for the dynamic weather typical of springtime in the Rocky Mountains.  The Free Teen Center will be open Monday through Thursday from 10 to 5:30 over spring break also.

Speaking of fun in the Rockies, the summer calendar is posted.  Although it is still a work in progress that is waiting for confirmation, the themes and activities are laid out.   We are excited to explore the way the world around us works in June, simply savor the fun of summer in July, and express ourselves through art and play in August.  Please note that, although the prices will not really change, our method of pricing and discounting does, just to simplify things.  The cost of a full day at Voyager is $40 and a full week (Monday through Thursday) is $150.  If you register and pay before May 1st, you receive a 15% discount.  Simply enter EarlyBird into the promo code field at checkout.  If you register and pay the month prior to the month of use, you receive a 10% discount.  The updated parent handbook and the new enrollment forms are also available.  You are required to complete a new enrollment packet and submit updated immunization records before your child can attend summer enrichment.

Stay tuned as we develop scholarships for Ouray County families who qualify for TANF funding.  As always, we are honored to collaborate with you, the schools, and the community in inspiring your child to lead a healthy life.
